When sixty Shawnee Indians led by their chief, Cornstalk, arrive unannounced at the Clendenin farmstead in Virginia, the family hesitantly offers their home and food in a gesture of friendship and peace. But things quickly go horribly wrong, the event forever becoming an important part of the annals of colonial America, even spurring the King of England to issue a historical proclamation. The story is also about a woman, Ann Clendenin; a pioneer, a wife, a mother and a farmer. Her actions and courage, in the midst of incredibly frightening and difficult circumstances, made her an American heroine.

The Clendenin Massacre Gregory A Clendenin 9780741484062 Books Reviews

This book is a fascinating historical true story about the Clendenin family, specifically Ann Clendenin, a true American Heroine who helped settle the western edge of the British Territories in the mid 1700's. The grit and determination of these people caught in the middle of a war with the Indians who brutally attacked and killed many of these settlers is incredible to say the least. While this story is based upon real events, it is written as a story told by Ann which makes it personal from her account and you truly feel connected with this brave woman and what she endured. I opened the book one evening to read a couple of chapters and the next thing I knew it was 200 AM and I had read the entire book. I just couldn't put it down. This truly is a must read.
Great beginning for the Clendenin Family Saga! I'm looking forward to the sequel and how the author will develop the family story.
I absolutely loved this very enthralling book, especially since it relates to some of my ancestors.
My wife is descended from the Clendenins and so she is excited to have been able to get this book.
I had heard the story of the Massacre all my life. Like the writer I am kin too . The Clendenin came to Texas in early 1840's.
I have not finished this book, but sure I will love it, it is about my ancestors.
Loved the book. Ann Clendenin was a very brave and resourceful woman and she also is my great, great, great, great grandmother. Mr.
Clendenin's account of the massacre and Ann being taken captive was accurate according to the documents our family has. She was taken captive after her husband was killed by Chief Cornstalk. She bravely escaped but paid a terrible price in doing so. She reclaimed her family home and later remarried and had more children. Enjoyed the book.
